Stephen H. Schneider verbally assaulted in Copenhagen during U.N. press conference

UPDATE December 14, 2009:  Readers, I am very pleased to report that Dr. Schneider was not at all assaulted verbally at the press conference.  In fact, apparently there was a website that took pieces of some quote of Dr. Schneider's, shortened it, called him a flipflopper, and generally misrepresented what he had said, so he was justifiably pissed off, and he took the opportunity to "give it to" Phelim McAlee.  I heartily congratulate Dr. Schneider!  We so rarely get the opportunity to tell people what we want to say.

Stephen H. Schneider verbally assaulted in Copenhagen during U.N. press conference

Huffington Post, December 10, 2009

Nobel laureate, renowned climate scientist and good friend of former US vice-president Al Gore, Dr. Stephen Schneider, was verbally attacked today during a press conference at the United Nations Climate Talks in Copenhagen.

Dr. Schneider, an outspoken proponent of climate legislation, was announcing his latest book, "Science as a Contact Sport: Inside the Battle to Save Earth's Climate , " when an unidentified man jumped on stage and began to intensely interrogate Schneider. The man became angry after Schneider addressed the leak email controversy from The University of East Anglia's world renowned Climate Research Unit. He repeatedly shouted, "do you approve of deleting data, Dr. Schneider? Do you approve of deleting data?" The man then accused the professor of attempting to censor the press. Professor Schneider, was shaking visibly after the confrontation, but said--repeatedly--he did not agree with deleting data.

[This video is from before the conference began. Dr. Schneider begins speaking at 1:08 minutes into the video. Note:  Lomborg is interviewed after Schneider -- Lomborg is a bought-and-paid-for obstructionist to the negotiations, but is a slick talker.  Link to YouTube video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-Q9POA54rs ]

Prior to the outburst, Professor Schneider addressed the leaked email controversy also known as "Climategate" in an exclusive interview with environmental reporter Olivia Zaleski . Read the full interview transcript on Earthkeepers, or watch parts of the interview edited within Zaleski's most recent Copenhagen Dispatch from filmmaker Gabriel London.
