Global Temperatures Soaring: 2015 starts off the top of the chart & El Niño is just warming up
NASA Global Annual Temperature record. The first 5 months of 2015 blows the top of the chart. The star shows how much 2015 will break the annual record if the temperature departures for the rest of 2015 are the same as the departure from normal for January through the end of May.
The National Weather Service, NOAA CFS model predicts that global sea surface temperatures will be far above normal this fall. NASA is also predicting a super El Niño with exceptionally warm water in the equatorial Pacific.
Human activities have caused atmospheric greenhouse gas levels to skyrocket.
Recent research has found that weather is becoming more extreme as the climate warms. Climate scientists have repeatedly warned that droughts would get more severe in the western U.S. and that the extreme droughts could be followed by floods in super El Niño years. That is exactly what is happening now as tropical storm Bill brings another round of flooding to Texas and Oklahoma.
Tropical storm will bring flooding to eastern Texas and Oklahoma.
"The climate is changing, whether men are doing it or not," Bush said, further calling for “policies of adaptation” to prep for its harmful consequences across the country.Florida is underlain by limestone which is full of holes. Buried channels, caverns and deep holes connect coastal Florida's waters to the ocean. There is no adaptation that can stop the rising seas around Miami. As temperatures warm, ice melts and sea level rises Miami and coastal Florida will drown. There's no way to plug the holes in the limestone.Bush also drew applause when he said he remained "a little skeptical" about taking advice on issues like climate change from Pope Francis, who is expected to call for urgent action on climate change, which the pontiff describes as mostly man-made.Bush, who converted to Catholicism 20 years ago, told town hall attendees that Francis is an "extraordinary leader" and "really cool," but that "religion ought to be about making us better as a people and less about things that end up getting into the political realm."
A politician who would let the largest city in his state drown because he is afraid of the Koch brothers is unfit to be governor. It's frightening to imagine such a spineless coward becoming president.
