Colorado Bob: La Nina's gone, and yet we are seeing 10-12 inch rain events in Illinois and Iowa.

Another 10" event in southern Illinois [west-central, actually], June 17-18, 2011.

Rain near Quincy, Ill., June 14, 2011.

June 8-9, 2011, Des Moines doppler rain est.
Yesterday was the 3rd wettest 24 hrs on record in Des Moines. 4.53 inches added with the day before, 7.3 inches fell in the last two days.


Corn hit $7.85 yesterday This 12-inch rain landed directly on the buckle of the Corn Belt.  But this isn't a single event.
June 2, 2011:
8.85 inches at Clay Co., Kansas.
Late May, 10 inches in northeast Oklahoma.
Montana got a year's worth rain in two weeks in May; it just rained another 5 inches at Round-Up, Montana.
It rained 4.8 inches in an hour in China this week.
It rained 300 mm (1 foot) there yesterday in 4 hours.
La Nina was nowhere to be seen.
Up date June 14, 2011:
Image on the top is the 8-10 inch event at Quincy, Ill.  5 inches forecast to fall tonight near Dubuque, Iowa.
Up date June 17-18, 2011:
10 more inches south and east of Quincy.
